One month down

Well, I think we have survived the first month. We took Joseph to the Dr yesterday for his checkup and he is doing very well. He now weighs 8 lbs and 6 ozs and is doing well. His pediatrician was very pleased with his progress.

Parenting is a unique priviledge coupled with a great amount of responsibility.

It will change your life.

Now if we can get Joseph to sleep through the night? That will come in time also.

Joseph is beautiful! Congratulations on a fine young son.

Now, the speech I give all new parents: The first six to eight weeks are the hardest. After that, things get much better. Baby will sleep more at night, plus he begins to get a little personality that rewards you with a smile or a coo, instead of just being a tiny little eating/sleeping machine.

Plus, you as parents are getting more accustomed to him by then--what his cries mean, how to comfort him, how to react to him.

If mom is breastfeeding, the worst of it (soreness, long feedings, uncertain schedules) will be over. Feeding settles into a routine, and baby gets so efficient at getting the milk out, feedings are much shorter.

Six to eight weeks is the magic milestone, in my opinion. And by six months? You'll think this child is the greatest thing God ever created, and the greatest thing that's ever happened to you. :)

Hello

I came to you from fatbaptist. Big congratulations to you! My munchkin didn't start sleeping for more than 3 hours until I found formula! (combined with myself....sorry purists but it had to be done) Some days are tough, but each day is a blessing and adventure. May you know real blessing and happiness as you watch your little man grow.

Hey Terry...how's it going now that we're into July? Did any of my predictions come true? :)

Cindy,

He is 11 weeks today and he has done really well sleeping through the night until last night when he woke up at 3:00 am and wanted to be fed.

He is starting to smile a little bit. He is a very well-behaved baby, but also has a bit of a temper too..

He still eats every 3-4 hours, but when we put him down at night, he has been sleeping 7-8 hours without interruption (until last night!)

If we could back his bedtime up just a bit. Right now, we get him fed and down between 11:00 and midnight, and that is an improvement from 12:30 am and 1:30 am!
